IMDb Top 250: #217 Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (2011)

Director: David Yates
Writers: Steve Kloves (screenplay), J.K. Rowling (novel)
Stars: Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint

Harry, Ron, and Hermione search for Voldemort’s remaining Horcruxes in their effort to destroy the Dark Lord as the final battle rages on at Hogwarts.

It took ten years and eight movies for Harry Potter’s adventures to come to a conclusion. And what a conclusion that is. A franchise that is nineteen-and-one-half hour long, detailing a teen wizard’s epic saga.

Epic fantasy is difficult to do in a movie. Especially when that epic fantasy is inspired by a beloved book series, but The Deathly Hallows Part 2 achieves the impossible and allows Harry Potter to go out on a high note. This movie is among the series’ best paced and most entertaining.

The epilogue, carefully adapted from the one in the book, provides a note of closure. This is important, because a project with the length and scope of Harry Potter demands a fitting exit, one that leaves no bitter aftertaste.
